Kats for Christ is the campus ministry of Huntsville Church of Christ serving Sam Houston State University. We strive to provide a place for college students to deepen their relationship with Jesus and other Christians. The purpose of the Kats for Christ ministry is to train and mature disciples of Jesus. We seek to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ at Sam Houston State University by sending out trained disciples of Jesus who are learning God’s word, experiencing community, serving others, being empowered by the Spirit of God and training other disciples of Jesus.
Each week we gather together at various times. Some students only come to our Wednesday night Bible Study, while others hang out at our building all week. Some students are very active and involved with the Huntsville Church of Christ, while others are tied only to KFC events. So there are many opportunities for anyone to be involved in what we do!
Wednesday night is our main on-campus gathering time each week. We meet at the KFC Building and begin with a time of a cappella singing and worship at 6:30 p.m. Then, around 7 p.m., we study, discuss and learn Scripture.
We have a college class that meets before the morning services at Huntsville Church of Christ at 9 a.m. During this time we pray together and study and discuss various texts of the Bible. And there are always donuts!
Our college students are invited and encouraged to join with other members at HCOC in small groups that we call SHARE groups. This is a great opportunity for students to get to know other Christians and be supported and encouraged.
Fellowship and Service Opportunities
We frequently get together to spend time together or serve others. Some of our regular activities include working with local organizations like the Hospitality House, tailgating at football games and playing Broomball in College Station. Another signature aspect our ministry are our Pizza Nights. We make it homemade in our very own pizza ovens and have a great time with it! Throughout the year we also have out-of-town trips such as retreats, mission trips and our annual trip to Z2 Convergence.

Our KFC Building is located on the SHSU campus at the corner of Avenue J and 17th Street – 1705 Ave. J, at the bottom of the hill. Our building features large “KFC” letters on the front of our building.
Can I get a ride to church if I need it?
Since many students live on or near campus, it should be no problem to find a ride to church. We currently to not have a regular system established for rides, mostly because students carpool and enjoy riding to church together! If you would like help in finding a ride to church, contact Warren or talk to one of our student leaders.
Who supports Kats for Christ?
We are primarily supported by the Huntsville Church of Christ, but other churches and individuals support our ministry through financial assistance, relational investment and prayer. If you or your church would like to support our ministry and efforts in any way, let us know!
What if I don’t attend HCOC?
We have many students who only participate in KFC events or students who worship elsewhere besides HCOC. We simply preach Jesus and want to share life with all individuals who are striving to live for Him.
